When you go out of the door of Hôtel Le Grand Balcon to the right away from Place Capitole, rue Paragaminières will bring you to the Garonne. You will find on the same side of the street the specialist Music & Dance Bookstore Bergamasque (Nr 68) and a store with funny bags and other things that you can bring home as gifts.

The rue Paragaminières ends on Place St. Pierre with many bars, cafés and places where you can sit outside, having a rather nice view to the other side of the Garonne with the buildings of "La Grave" old hospital.

When you go out the hotel door to the left, on the first street of the left, Rue des Lois, are some noteworthy shops:

- Nr 16 A French Style Tea room le Salon d'Eugénie

- Nr 20 a funny little shop with old-retro and new-retro things you thought you never find again, like a pair of eyes for your old doll, or the missing buttons in that 70-ties pink. Always something to se and to find.

- Nr 23. La Mucca or the mecca for pencils, notebook and other paperware lovers.

The second street on the right when you go left out of the hotel you'll find rue du Taur, going to the St Sernin basilica. On Saturday morning around St Sernin is a brocante market. On weekdays and Saturday you can find healthy and tasty snacks at Bananaland, refreshing smoothies, warming soup made from organic and/or fair-trade products.

If you're a foody don't miss the market Victor Hugo open early morning till about 12:30 (every day except monday). On the ground floor is the market with local produces and specialties and on the first floor is a restaurant area. The ingredients come fresh from downstairs right on your plate.

Where to eat

One of the best restaurants of Toulouse. The ingredients are classic for the region: free range lamb, pork and duck, seasonal vegetables and yet you'll always find a touch of unexpected and original in the classical repertoire. Le May is hidden in the old streets of Toulouse centre in 4, Rue May 05 61 23 98 76. It's small and cozy the menu is typical for the region what they call "familial".

Want to see an exposition at Toulouse's Modern Art Museum Les Abattoirs, you take the bridge Pont St Pierre over the Garonne river.
